We are pleased to announce that SEEAWA will be attending the upcoming meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Domestic Violence and Abuse on Tuesday 3rd November (14:00 – 15:30).
This critical parliamentary session focuses on a vital question:
“Does the government’s plan for homelessness address the experiences of survivors of domestic abuse?”
The Intersection of Domestic Abuse & Homelessness for ESEA Women
Domestic abuse remains the leading cause of homelessness among women, yet women are routinely underrepresented in official rough sleeping data. For East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) women and girls, this crisis is amplified by distinct structural barriers:
- Hidden Homelessness & “No Recourse to Public Funds” (NRPF): Migrant ESEA survivors trapped by NRPF status are frequently excluded from local authority housing support, leaving them at risk of extreme exploitation or forced return to dangerous situations.
- Invisible Struggles: ESEA survivors often experience hidden homelessness—sofa surfing or staying in unsafe living arrangements—making them statistically invisible in public sector assessments.
- Systemic Service Gaps: A lack of culturally informed, linguistically accessible housing pathways means public services too often force survivors to choose between basic shelter and their safety.
Driving Systems Change
The APPG meeting brings together sectoral leaders—including representatives from Solace Women’s Aid, Crisis, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority—to assess the National Plan to End Homelessness.
By attending and bringing our insights to this national forum, SEEAWA is working to ensure that policy recommendations directly address ESEA survivors. Halving violence against women and girls (VAWG) and ending long-term rough sleeping cannot be achieved without ring-fenced support for minoritised and migrant women.
We will continue to advocate for joined-up action between the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Home Office so that no survivor is left behind.
9) Free mental health resources
Prioritizing mental health and emotional well-being is vital for our ESEA community, where workplace stress, relational boundaries, caregiving pressures, and mental health stigma often go unspoken.
This November, SEEAWA is highlighting a series of free, licensed therapist-led webinars designed to offer practical tools for emotional safety, personal resilience, and professional boundaries. All sessions are online and free to attend.
